Budget Buster
Car maintenance is an expensive part of the family budget for most of us. Sometimes it’s a budget buster. This often leads to neglecting the maintenance which leads to expensive repairs in the future. You may be able to break this cycle by getting your car maintenance and minor body work through a local technical school or at a high school vocational center.
Future Mechanics of America
Some technical schools offer courses in auto mechanics and do basic car maintenance and minor body work for the general public. The services are limited to basic maintenance like oil changes. The schools are also limited in the volume of work they’re able to do. Visit local schools that offer auto mechanics courses and ask to speak to an administrator. Ask if the school allows their students to do mechanical work for the general public. If so, ask questions about the program. Ask what services are provided, who does them and if there is a fee.
Make an Appoinment
If you’re satisfied with what you’ve seen and heard, offer to have your car serviced. Make an appointment to get an oil change or minor body work at the school. If you’re satisfied with the work, give the students return business and help them become better mechanics.
Shop Around
If there’s no local technical school, try following the same plan at a local high school. Some high school students begin their formal education in auto mechanics at the local high school technical vocational center where they’re trained and observed by experienced mechanics.
